Oregon and Washington trip- Part 2

Saturday July 25, 2016
The next morning H woke up with a high fever and his right ear was draining pretty bad. Luckily Dr. Shakula was on call and was willing to call in an antibiotic for us. We put cotton in his ear to try and catch some of the drainage. Poor guy.

We met up with Jenni and Nate at the Portland temple grounds. We were going to go to the Portland Zoo but it was supposed to rain all day.

We walked around the grounds that were just amazingly beautiful. We stopped in at the visitors center where we met a missionary from Sandy, UT. She was fun to talk to. She was so good with the kids and let them play on the interactive computer screens.

One of our must do's in Portland was to stop at VooDoo donuts. It has been featured on the Food Network several times. It was a total tourist trap and it was very crowded. We still wanted to do it. The rain was pouring down!!!

We waited in line for over an hour. We all huddled under our umbrella.

We finally made it to the cash register.

We sat in the car and enjoyed our strange donuts combinations. It was fun.

It was still raining so we decided to try something indoors. We drove over to OMSI science museum. The lines there were insane! It was so crowded. After waiting in line for 30 minutes without any progress we decided to ditch the museum and head to our next destination. We were headed to Rockaway Beach to stay in a beach house. We were all antsy to get there so we left Portland early.

The Tillimok Cheese factory was just a few minutes away from the beach house so we decided to stop there for lunch. The grilled cheese and the mac and cheese were amazing. Not to mention the yummy ice-cream.
Randy and I also stopped at a farmers stand and bought some mini artichokes. They were all over.

Once we arrived at the beach house the kids were desperate to see the ocean. It was their first time to ever see it. The water was cold and they didn't even care. We forgot to warn them that the water in the ocean was salty. That was a huge surprise for them. They weren't expecting that.

I got a huge lump in my throat and teary as I watched my kids play in the ocean. They were so playful and carefree. I love watching my kids experience new things. Being a mother is amazing.

Jenni and I hanging out at the beach watching the kiddos have the time of their lives.

I asked the kids what they thought and they both couldn't believe how soft the sand was. They scoured the beach for shells. They also didn't realize the waves in the ocean were so big.

The beach house was literally right on the sand. This was our ocean view every night.

We hurried and washed off all the salty sand and headed out for dinner. We went to a diner in town called Lakeside Cafe. It was kind of a dive, we were scared. We ordered clam chowder to eat while we waited for a pizza. The kids chowed in down in seconds. I couldn't believe it. I don't think they even realized there was seafood in it.

The pizza was actually really yummy. The crust was really crunchy and they put a lot of toppings on it. We were glad it wasn't a bust.

After we finished eating the sun was setting so we found the closest beach to watch the sun set.

I'm so glad my kids had a good first experience at the beach.
